SURVEY SERVICES & GUIDANCE

Revit & BIM Survey Deliverables London

Start your model with measured information about the existing building. Line Surveying provides laser scanning and survey deliverables for architects and project teams working in Revit, CAD and BIM workflows across London.

Choose the deliverable your team needs

A registered point cloud, a Revit model and a set of CAD drawings are different outputs. Agreeing which one you need at the start avoids paying for work that does not support your design.

  • Point cloud: measured spatial data that your team can reference while drawing or modelling.
  • Revit model: a model produced from the survey, with the elements and level of detail defined in the brief.
  • 2D drawings: floor plans, elevations and sections for teams that need a clear drawing package.

Our 3D laser scanning service captures the source data. If you mainly need drawings, see measured building surveys.

Define the model before the site visit

Send the property address, the areas to be included and the purpose of the model. Identify the floors, roofs, external faces and other features your designers need. List any plant, services or architectural details that require particular attention.

Confirm the Revit version, units, project origin, coordinate requirements and preferred file naming. If your project has an information standard or a required level of detail, include that document in the brief. Do not assume that every visible object will be modelled simply because it appears in the point cloud.

From site capture to handover

  1. Scope review: agree the survey extent, access arrangements, deliverables and intended use.
  2. Site survey: capture accessible internal and external areas using the agreed survey approach.
  3. Processing: register and review the captured data before drawing or modelling.
  4. Production: prepare the agreed model, drawings or point cloud deliverables.
  5. Handover: issue the files with the information the design team needs to use them and understand any limitations.

Survey and production time depend on the building, access and modelling scope. Ask us to confirm site attendance and delivery dates for your project.

Understand what the survey can show

Laser scanning records visible surfaces. Concealed construction, covered services and inaccessible spaces cannot be assumed to have been measured. A measured model describes the existing geometry within the agreed scope; it is not a structural assessment or confirmation of the building materials behind a surface.

Tell us where a connection, opening or critical dimension is important to the design. Required tolerances and checks should be agreed for the deliverable, rather than inferred from the scanner specification.

Revit and point cloud questions

Can you provide a point cloud without a model?

Yes. Point cloud data can be supplied for your own CAD or BIM workflow. Confirm the required format and software version when requesting a quote.

Can existing drawings be used?

Existing drawings help describe the brief and identify areas of interest. Tell us their date and purpose; they should not be treated as verified survey information without checking.

Can you work with an occupied building?

Access can be planned around occupation and site restrictions. Let us know about tenants, secure rooms, working hours and any areas that may be unavailable.

How do I request a quote?

Send the site address, the building size or available plans, the model or drawing scope and your programme. Our survey brief checklist will help you prepare the information.

Discuss your survey

Send your site address, required deliverables and programme. We will review the scope with you.
